10 Ways To Quickly Improve Your Mood For A More Productive Day

We all have those days where we're sleepy, anxious, or even straight up grumpy - but it's important not to let those moods affect our work (especially when running a solopreneurship). Entrepreneurship can be incredibly taxing and when your office is just a few steps from where you woke up (on the wrong side of the bed) it's hard not to let your mood drag you down. So we have a few quick tips for turning around your mood and having a productive and happy workday.

1. Smile

It might seem overly simple, but as many psychologists have found we can trick our brains into thinking we're happy by exercising our smiling muscles. Plaster a big, phony smile on your face and it can become real pretty quick. It is by FAR the fastest solution to a bad mood we have ever found and is extremely effective especially right before a meeting or an event for which you need to be in a better mood right away.

2. Accomplish Something

It can seriously improve your mood to knock something off your goals list no matter how small. Tackle a small task that you've been putting off, tidy up part of your home or office, or make a new list of a few simple things you need to get done, and watch your smile grow as you check them off. 

3. Watch or Read Something Funny

A quick YouTube video can have you rolling with laughter and forget about your problems. The key is to find something you know will make you laugh, yet won't distract you too much and send you down the YouTube tunnel for hours at a time.

4. Set The Mood

The happy mood that is! Make sure your office is clean and that you're surrounded by the things that make you happy. If your mood is easily affected by dreary weather it helps to have pretty lights all over your office so you can keep things cheery. If it's a sunny day, spend a few minutes outside in direct sunlight to literally brighten your day.

5. Practice Positive Self-Talk

Take some time to encourage yourself with positive self-talk for a better day. This is something that we like to do every single day, regardless of mood. Tell yourself everything you are proud of accomplishing, and make a list of things you're grateful for. When negative thoughts come up - don't let them drag you down. We actually recommend saying them outloud, you'll often find they sound ridiculous and that you'll be able to dismiss them that much faster.

6. Play Happy Music

7. Pamper Yourself

Wash your face, give your nails a quick paint, do a 5-minute face mask - anything to give yourself a little treat. Not only can a little self-care help you feel relaxed and pampered, but it will also help you get ready for the day and keep yourself healthy and happy overall. 8. Meditate

Take a 5 minute meditation break to center your thoughts, breathe deeply, and forget about the rest of the world. Focus on your body, clearing your mind, and allow yourself to relax. The more you practice meditation the better you'll get at it, and the easier it will be to meditate effectively.

9. Exercise

A quick stretch or workout can go a long way in improving your mood. If you have an extra 15 minutes you can even fit in a quick HITT routine. Anything to get your blood pumping and endorphins up will help you turn around your mood quickly. It helps to listen to some energetic music while you're exercising so you can get even more motivated to take on the day.

10. Call A Friend Or Say Hi To A Pet

If you need to quickly cheer up, and you're having trouble accomplishing it with the above ideas, it's always okay to give a quick call to your bestie. Granted. this shouldn't be an everyday habit, but sometimes talking to another human is necessary when you work from home alone! Just share that you're in a bit of a mood and chat for a few minutes. It will no doubt lift your spirits. BUT - make sure you're calling someone positive and supportive, if there is any potential for stress or drama don't touch that dial.

If you have a pet around it's also great to spend a few minutes with them to put yourself in a better mood. Cats and dogs especially are known to make people happier, and giving them a little attention won't hurt their mood either!
